Giroscope

Volunteering

Giroscope has always tried to provide opportunities for volunteers in all aspects of our work. Recently we have been working with young people who are unemployed having left school with few or no qualifications. Practical work placements for these youngsters are rare, so the opportunities we are able to offer, working on old houses, are greatly appreciated. We have also been able to offer limited volunteering opportunities in administration including people who have helped with our fundraising efforts. We get volunteers from a range of sources in the city, including Hull CVS, the Job Centre and the Active 8 project (based at the KC Stadium).

We welcome enquiries from anyone interested in working with us whether you have a skill to offer or not. We are, however, a small organisation and can not accommodate everyone who applies to volunteer with us. We regularly receive enquiries from a diverse range of people including students who are studying subjects like housing, sociology, social policy and geography. On many occasions we have invited these people to visit our organization and answer their questions if we can!

Why become a Giroscope Volunteer?

Being a volunteer at Giroscope is a great opportunity for you to learn new skills, receive valuable work experience & on the job training while using your spare time for the benefit of the Hessle Road Community of West Hull.

Giroscope believes that being a volunteer should be a rewarding experience. Volunteer with Giroscope & you will be made to feel part of the organisation & given the training & support to help you feel proud of the work you do. We offer a flexible work environment; you can commit to a fixed time each week or just a few hours when you can spare them.

Giroscope has been training & supporting volunteers for over 17 years. Some of them have become members of our Co-operative whilst others have used their time as a stepping stone to other jobs & activities.
